Drivin’ In Circles

One day several years ago, when my kids were younger (and some would say a lot higher maintenance), I took them out with me to run some errands.

I love that phrase “run some errands”. It sounds so effortless, doesn’t it?

As I remember, it took about 2 hours to get them in the car, but it couldn’t have been more than 45 minutes, could it? I was
already slipping on the Good Christian Mom scale by the time we did get in the car. Raised voices were involved. Movin’ on down the road I continued to deal with kid stuff like...whining, spilled drinks, “stop touching me”, lost toys, more whining, kicking the
driver seat, yet more whining. It seemed much worse than the usual, and it just did not stop.
The situation got worse as I seemed to encounter even more discourteous and downright dangerous drivers than usual. It’s just possible that I was one of them.

I was so flustered and frustrated that I kept forgetting where I was and how to get where I was going. I kept having to turn
around and go back. It happened over and over. I was driving around in circles yelling at my kids. We were all crying.

Not a pretty picture. And so...

I threw out my Good Christian Mom scale, prayed for forgiveness and wrote this song. And I asked the Lord to please,
please let my mess be somehow an encouragement to someone else.

“What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!... Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus...”

Romans 7:24-25 Rom 8:1

This doesn’t give us permission to live however we want to, Rather it gives us that
certain hope that when we do mess up, we can come before Jesus, ask forgiveness, receive it and move on.
